Two of the most formidable fighters in the UFC welterweight division are set to clash this weekend. The UFC 310 fight card will feature undefeated fighters Ian Garry and Shavkat Rakhmonov in the co-main event. Recently, Garry added even more intrigue to this already exciting matchup by revealing some fascinating details about his sparring sessions with Rakhmonov.

Ian Garry and Shavkat Rakhmonov have confidently claimed they can defeat each other. Notably, Rakhmonov made a striking statement, claiming he thoroughly dominated and submitted Garry during their sparring sessions. However, there was no concrete evidence to support this until now. In response, the Irishman himself has made an admission that has heightened the excitement.

Yes, it’s training. Dude, if I tell you all the people that I have absolutely burned and choked in training, you would say I’m the best fighter already. The truth is, we’re all learning, practicing in training.

Interestingly, both Garry and Rakhmonov were once teammates, training together under the same coach at Kill Cliff FC. However, years later, Garry transitioned to Chute Boxe, where he began training under Diego Lima. During their time together, the Irishman honed his skills alongside Rakhmonov. Later, he trained with top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighters, including Charles Oliveira.

Garry not only acknowledged that he was submitted by Rakhmonov, but he also emphasized that such experiences are integral to training sessions. Over the years, many fighters have likely encountered submissions and knockouts during sparring.

According to Garry, these training outcomes should not undermine a fighter’s effectiveness in actual fights. Interestingly, Rakhmonov shares a similar perspective on this matter.

Shavkat Rakhmonov believes Ian Garry is a ’tough’ opponent

Over the years, the UFC community has witnessed numerous heated conversations and trash talk between fighters. However, that is not the case with Garry and Rakhmonov. Although both fighters are determined to maintain their perfect records by securing a victory, they are not disrespecting each other. Instead, Garry and Rakhmonov are focused on winning the fight.

The most important for me is the win. Sparring is sparring. The fight is different. Ian Garry is a very tough opponent who is a good tactician, who comes in with a good plan. So, for me, it doesn’t matter (whether it’s) submission or stoppage. For me what’s most important is to win.
