The 2025 Asia Cup final between arch-rivals India and Pakistan seemed like the plot of a thrilling movie, with the outcome ultimately decided in the final moments. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav admitted that his heart-rate was over the roof, like the millions watching from their televisions, following the team’s batting collapse in the second innings.

India and Pakistan faced off against each other thrice in the 2025 Asia Cup, with the Men in Blue having triumphed comfortably in the first two matches. However, the final posed a much more difficult challenge, going down to the wire.

Batting first, Pakistan were bowled out for 146 runs in 19.1 overs, despite the Men in Green having endured a good start to their innings, thanks to an 84-run stand between openers Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman.

Once Farhan and Zaman were dismissed, no other Pakistani batter managed to cross the 20-run mark. Kuldeep Yadav decimated the Pakistani middle-order, claiming four crucial wickets, including Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Shaheen Afridi, and Faheem Ashraf. His bowling partner Varun Chakravarthy supported him with a two-wicket haul, while Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah also claimed two scalps each.

While the 147-run target seemed to be straightforward, the Indian team faced a major scare after losing their top three batters even before the end of the power-play. Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill and captain Suryakumar Yadav‘s wickets put the Indian team in a precarious position of 20-3. However, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube led the comeback to guide India to victory with two balls remaining, much to the relief of the Indian captain.

Speaking to Boria Majumdar after the Asia Cup final victory, the 35-year-old admitted that he was tensed during India’s dramatic early batting collapse, estimating that his heart rate was close to 150 as he paced in and out of the dressing room. Yadav also stated that he even approached one of the coaches for advice on how to deal with the pressure, who reminded him that their job is to keep the players relaxed so that they can perform at the highest level.

Had there been a heart-rate monitor, it would have shown my heartbeat over 150 for sure. I was walking inside the dressing room in the 11th or 12th over. After that I never stopped inside.

Suryakumar Yadav said following India’s Asia Cup win

Responding to a query about his leadership, particularly how he inspired the team to turn around the match, Suryakumar Yadav, in poor form recently, stated that he instructed his bowlers to remain calm. The India captain added that he told his players to maintain good energy and body language, till the end.

Yadav shared his decision to extend financial help to the families of the victims of the Pahalgam attack and the Indian army through a social media message. He explained that this decision was made in alignment with the Indian government and the BCCI. Yadav expressed his hope that this act would inspire all Indians and give the team more motivation on the ground.

The Indian T20I captain will earn INR 4 lakhs per match, which means that he will donate a total of INR 28 lakhs. Additionally, the Indian team is also set to receive INR 21 crores as prize money for winning the 2025 Asia Cup. It remains to be seen whether other players will follow the captain’s footsteps and donate their tournament earnings for a similar noble cause.

Surprisingly, Pakistani skipper Salman Ali Agha announced a similar initiative. He stated that he would also donate his match fees to the victims of ‘Operation Sindoor’. Agha’s donation is designated for the ‘civilians and children’ affected by India’s counter-military operation.
