Maharashtra batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been one of the most consistent batsmen in both the domestic circuit and the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has more often than not made a case for why he deserves a look in with regard to the national team. However, the call-up has never arrived.

Unfazed by the selectors’ call that never arrived, Surya has gone about his business with aplomb. He came into his own in the 2020 IPL especially as he score a whopping 480 runs in 16 matches at an average of 40. His consistency was one of the hallmarks of his side Mumbai Indians’ (MI) title triumph. Coming in at No. 3, a crucial spot, in every match the right-handed batsman was always there to either steady the ship or to accelerate.

In a practice match that was held among Maharashtra cricketers ahead of the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy, Suryakumar Yadav showed his immense talent with an explosive knock of 120 in just 47 balls. He was leading the B side but decimated the A side with a mind-blowing exhibition of cricket. He especially took a liking to cricketing icon Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun who was taken for 21 runs in just one over.

The knock that had 10 fours and 9 sixes led Surya’s side to an excellent total of 213 in 20 overs. Arjun Tendulkar who was taken for 21 runs in one over came back remarkably well to finish with figures of 1-33 in 4 overs. Suryakumar Yadav’s consistently impressive displays have only made the knock on the selectors’ doors louder and it now must only be a matter of time before he dons the India blue.
