Indian Cricket Team gave a memorable time to the fans when they won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 29 in Barbados. They became the first team to win the T20 World Cup without losing any game. It was an emotional win for the players and the fans as the team had come close to the trophy on multiple occasions since 2013. However, they either were defeated in the semi-final or in the final.
The T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa was miraculous and hard-fought win by 7 runs. However, at one stage, the game was gone. One of the main reasons why India won the game was due to Suryakumar Yadav‘s spectacular catch in the final over to dismiss David Miller. That brought the game and the World Cup in India’s favor.
India’s new T20I captain, Yadav, broke his silence on the spectacular catch in the final. He said that the memories of the catch will stay with him forever and he has practiced such catches multiple times in training sessions.
However, Yadav did not believe that he could have gone on to take such a catch in a World Cup final and that too in that nerve-wracking situation. India beat South Africa by 7 runs and went on to win the ICC T20 World Cup after 17 long years.
This will stay with me forever because I've done those things in my practice sessions a lot. But I didn't think that it would come at that moment, the World Cup final and that situation. I'm very grateful for that to be doing something special on a special occasion. But yeah! As you said, that will remain with me forever. It won't be a one-month challenge or a one-year challenge. I think it will be for a lifetime.Suryakumar Yadav said ( via BCCI.tv)
Suryakumar Yadav is the new T20I captain of Team India
After the T20 World Cup 2024, captain Rohit Sharma along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja retired from the shortest format of the game. It was expected that Hardik Pandya, who was the vice-captain in the T20 World Cup 2024, will be appointed as the T20I captain.
However, the new head coach, Gautam Gambhir, and the selectors went with Yadav keeping in mind the fitness issues with Pandya. They wanted a captain who has the most chances of playing every T20I series till the 2026 T20 World Cup in India.
Under Yadav, Team India won the T20I series against Australia at home in 2023 by a margin of 4-1 and drew the series against South Africa by a 1-1 margin. Now, as a full time T20I captain, Yadav’s team inflicted a 3-0 whitewash to Sri Lanka.
