Team India under Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma managed to script history in Barbados as they beat South Africa by 7 runs to win the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. It was a nerve wrecking final as South Africa needed 30 runs off 30 balls with 6 wickets in hand to win and it was going to be an easy task with David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen at the crease.
However, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya put the squeeze on the Proteas batting line up and they succumbed to the pressure yet again. After the final, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from the T20I’s. On the other hand, the final was the last game for Dravid as the head coach of team India as well.
After the final, Suryakumar Yadav stated that Dravid thanked Sharma for giving him a phone call after India suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad. Dravid did not want to continue, but Sharma and BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, convinced him to continue till the T20 World Cup 2024.
