Suryakumar Yadav missed over four months of cricket after an injury during India’s tour of South Africa. Along with the injury, he needed to undergo a sports hernia surgery, which ruled him out further. Now he’s finally back, and revealed what got him through his injury.

In a video released by the IPL, Suryakumar Yadav spoke about his time at Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy, where he underwent physiotherapy and rehab. He revealed that he needed to change his entire schedule, which saw him sleeping as early as he could.

Thanks to that, he could only watch half the matches as he slept by 10:30. He revealed this made him work harder so that he could return to the field as soon as possible. These change in his lifestyle also helped the 33-year-old “grow as a person and athlete“.

I (had) never read a book in my life and I started doing that as well. Getting up in the morning, spending a good quality time at the rehab centre and focusing on everything, connecting myself, my brain and my body with the rehab and it helped me well to recover a little faster.

He brought a huge change to his schedule which saw him changing his diet as well. And apart from picking up a book and sleeping on time, Yadav started going to the NCA early in the morning to work on his recovery. Although he wasn’t able to return to cricket before the start of the IPL, he continued with his new lifestyle but the process sometimes frustrated him.

There were times I'd feel angry, but thanks to the physios and trainers - they understood how I wanted to work.
