Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as India’s captain in the T20I series vs Sri Lanka. He is being looked as the captain to lead India in T20Is as Hardik Pandya, who was the vice-captain under Rohit Sharma, has been overlooked. Shubman Gill has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the T20I series vs Sri Lanka.
Sharma along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja retired from T20Is after leading India to a win in the T20 World Cup 2024. So, India needed to look for someone who will replace Sharma and take the Indian T20I team forward. Yadav who had captained India in the 5-game T20I series vs Australia after the ODI World Cup 2023 and in the 3-game T20I series vs South Africa, was picked as the choice.
He was asked about how he was enjoying his captaincy and what was his mantra. SKY stated that he was enjoying the captaincy, and all the players have played with each for some time and also faced each other in the IPL. They have also played in domestic cricket with each other.
So, he does not feel it to be tough to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the players. Yadav went on to say that the players in the team spends time together off the field and so their relationship on the field become smooth. He wants to keep things simple and he calls himself a process oriented player. He has passed on the same knowledge to the other players.
Suryakumar Yadav is India’s best batter in T20I cricket for some time now
Yadav has been India’s best batter in T20I cricket for a while. He can play shots all around the ground and he decimates bowling attacks with his unorthodox shots. Now, he has been given the role of captaining the T20I team and replacing one of the legends in Indian cricket.
It’s a no brainer that he will give his all and form a team to replicate the success in the 2026 T20 World Cup at home. He also enjoys a good relationship with India’s new Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir, from his time as a KKR player. The first assignment for the duo will definitely be the 3-game T20I series in Sri Lanka.
