Recently, the two promotions, WWE and TNA, struck a partnership. It was evident when the TNA Knockouts Champion, Jordynne Grace made a surprise appearance on NXT and challenged Roxanne Perez for the title. Witnessing the crossover between both companies, AEW World Champion, Swerve Strickland talked about the possibility of a potential partnership between WWE and AEW.
While speaking on the Bootleg Kev podcast, Swerve Strickland expressed his belief that now could be the perfect time for both companies to work together. He stated that WWE and AEW bosses, Triple H and Tony Khan, shouldn’t be opposed to the idea. Fans could expect many dream matches if WWE and AEW decide to do a crossover in the future.
The AEW World Champion was once part of WWE. He even won the NXT North American Title by defeating Bronson Reed on the June 29, 2021, episode of NXT as part of the faction Hit Row. However, after being drafted to SmackDown in the 2021 Draft, they couldn’t make much impact, and he was released along with Top Dolla, B-Fab, and Ashante Adonis on November 18.
If there's ever a time it could happen, now's more likely than it's ever been. I don't think either person is opposed.Swerve Strickland via the Bootleg Kev podcast
It’s safe to say that he completely revamped his career at AEW. The 33-year-old star recently defeated Samoa Joe to become the AEW World Champion at Dynasty. Strickland became the first African American wrestler to hold the title. If a crossover between both companies happens, he could come back to the Stamford-based company.
Dustin Rhodes praised Swerve Strickland and called him a generational talent
Swerve Strickland has certainly created his legacy, as the legends of this business have also started to recognize him as a true star. Dustin Rhodes had nothing but praise for the current AEW World Champion. He shared a post admiring Strickland’s tenure at the Jacksonville-based company.
The former Goldust took to X and promoted the 33-year-old star’s next fight against Roderick Strong on the upcoming Dynamite. After going toe-to-toe with him in the ring, he felt that Strickland deserved his place in the category. While Rhodes called him a generational talent and talked about his toughness, he didn’t forget to shower some praise on his opponent, Strong.
From 1st hand experience, swerveconfident is in a different category. A generational talent who is as tough as they come. roderickstrong is also a man of strict work ethic, who is himself a force. With his ability to tie you up in a knot….I’d say we are getting a PPV caliber matchup Wednesday on #AEWDynamiteDustin Rhodes on X
While Swerve retained the title by defeating Christian Cage at Double or Nothing, Strong suffered a loss at the hands of Will Ospreay, who became the new AEW International Champion. Defeating a hard-hitting wrestler like Roderick Strong won’t be easy for the AEW World Champion, but it will undoubtedly be a top-tier battle.
