“I always saw her as this special person to me”: Cody Simpson and Emma McKeon open up about their relationship, work-life balance

Australian swimmers Emma McKeon and Cody Simpson have recently opened up about their high profile relationship ahead of the Commonwealth Games. As both the stars make their appearance at the CWG, with Simpson making his very first appearance, their relationship has been making headlines. McKeon, who dominated at last year’s Tokyo Olympics, is expected to continue her streak this year at the Commonwealth Games.
“You know, when you meet someone, you just recognise that there’s something there. I always saw her as this special person to me. Like overall, pretty inspiring human,” Simpson said according to the Herald Sun. Simpson wooed McKeon with his singing, admitting he had a crush on the 28-year-old for some time before acting on his feelings.

Both swimmers acknowledged that they had a connection, and a year later they ended up acting on it. “Whenever I’m playing (music), she’ll just drop whatever she’s doing and watch and listen. She doesn’t have to do that, but I like that. You always pay attention. It’s nice.” McKeon said that she likes listening to Simpson play, and she feels like they are best friends, which is more important than anything for her.
When asked to choose whether McKeon or swimming was the “best thing” in his life, Simpson could not come up with a clear answer. “It’s a loaded question. Like, swimming is that we do together, it’s all wrapped up in one,” he said. The couple was also asked about ‘friction’ between the team, as McKeon and fellow swimmer Kyle Chalmers used to date too. While the media seems to have exaggerated things, the dynamic between the team is completely fine, as the team moves on to compete at the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
