“She cannot compete with females at the Olympics”: Lia Thomas’ actions heavily discourages by Dan Wootton
Lia Thomas
Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas made headlines after winning an NCCA Division 1 National championship. Thomas has spent three years winning for the Penn men’s team, and then joined the women’s squad for the 2021-2022 season. There have been a lot of complaints from fellow swimmers, celebrities and parents, who feel that Thomas has an inherent advantage over the other females in competition.
British Journalist and broadcaster Dan Wootton was amongst several people including Caitlyn Jenner and DeSantos to denounce Thomas for competing in the female category. Wootton said that he felt deeply troubled for the women who trained so hard to actually win in the pool, only to be pushed down by a biological male.
Dan Wootton clear that Lia Thomas should not compete against women in the Olympics
“Lia has a right to live however she chooses but, I’m sorry she cannot and must not compete at the Olympics against women,” said Wootton clearly in dailymail.co.uk. “The harsh reality is that, as a man, there was about as much chance of Lia competing in the Olympics for Team USA in swimming as there is of me representing Team GB in gymnastics.”
He highlighted the struggle of other women. He said that even an Olympic medallist like Emma Weyant trailed 1.75s behind Thomas, as several people though the silver medal winner actually deserved the gold medal. “I am delighted Lia Thomas is living her authentic life and I genuinely wish her all the best, but her delightful personal journey of fulfilment sadly cannot come at the cost of women’s sport,” concluded Wootton.
