Michael Phelps jogged down memory lane to catch hold of the inspirational piece which eventually led him to join the national swimming association. He shares his story on how he first got started and from whom he got his motivation to do so.
Maybe he also didn’t know what a tremendous mark he will leave on the swimming world today. With 28 Olympic medals, he won the world and also the heart of thousands of fans. He won 6 gold medals and 2 bronze medals at his first-ever Olympics in the 2004 Summer Olympics held at Athena.
Michael Phelps’s inspiration to join national organization came from his sisters

Under his numerous gigantic achievements laid a sweet story of how a boy got inspired and motivated to take his swimming to a whole another stratosphere. Michael Phelps shared his story during an interview with USA Swimming after his 2016 Summer Olympic games.
His sisters not only inspired him in his career but also provided great motivation to him. Looking at his sisters he wanted to travel the world around and be a part of something big. Phelps stated, “I have two elder sisters that I look up to and for them, I had the chance to travel nationally and internationally.”
He continued his story, “Whitney was on the national team with people I looked up to and she always used to come back with autographs. I wanted to do that. I wanted to be a part of these teams and travel the world.” They inspired him to aim at something big, and to try his very best.
“At that point, I just wanted to become an Olympic gold medalist, break the records, and wanted to be a professional athlete,” he noted. After being part of the national swimming team, he got to take a look at the Olympics with an eagle-eye perspective. He was amazed and thirsty to achieve something bigger on a platform that everyone looked up to.
He expressed his feeling about his first stage, “My first national team was for the Olympics, it’s as big as you can get. Just having that experience, and getting the free t-shirts and free gear, everything you can possibly imagine, they handed it to you.” Rest of the story everyone knows!
He became the most decorated Olympian with several honors, awards, and recognitions. Though the fans cried out when Phelps was not honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, despite the fact of how much he did and achieved in the sport. Before finishing up his story he boldly exclaimed, “Once an Olympian, always an Olympian. That’s as big as you can get in the sport.”
