Michael Phelps to represent USA in 2022 Ryder-Cup style Icons series Golf Tournament

The world will see Michael Phelps return to the big stage once again. The 28 time Olympic gold medallist is among eight sports stars that has been confirmed to compete at the debut event of the Icon series. The Icon series is a new concept in sport and entertainment that aims to bring bonafide global icons together for team match-play format events.

The Icon series will me a memorable one, representing a Ryder Cup-style golf tournament. Team USA will take on the Rest of the World in a 10 hole playing format. Phelps will be making an appearance alongside pro football Michael Strahan, boxing world champion Oscar De La Hoya and Super Bowl Champion Ben Roethlisberger.

The team will be lead by golfing legend and Master Winner Fred Couples, while four-time major winner Ernie Els will read the The Rest of The World. Els’ team will comprise of boxer Canelo Alvarez, Aussie Tennis player Ash Barty, Pep Guardiola and Harry Kane.

The event will be held between late June and early July. “We’re thrilled to launch the Icons Series in America with a Mount Rushmore of the world’s best athletes, all incredible golfers and fierce competitors,” said CEO of Icon Series, Thomas Brooke to swimswam.com. Both teams are expected to add more names to their roster soon.
