“15-year-old swimming superstar”: Summer McIntosh impresses at the Canadian World Championship Trials

The ongoing Canadian Swimming Trials have seen a certain 15-year-old shine in the limelight, as Summer McIntosh keeps the ball rolling.

The 15-year-old has three event wins and has also managed to qualify for all three events; especially after winning the 200m butterfly event final on Friday. Canada’s World Championship team and Commonwealth Games team will be selected through these events. McIntosh won the 400m freestyle event by breaking the Canadian national record, as well as broke her personal record in the 200m freestyle event.

Along with Summer McIntosh, Olympic medallist Penny Oleksiak, Kayla Sanchez and Taylor Ruck also easily qualified for the World Championships in the women’s 100m freestyle event. Sanchez took the win in 53.68 seconds. Ruck’s performance recently also meant that she will be considered for the relay events as well.

The men’s 100m free final was won by Josh Liendo in 48.35, with Ruslan Gaziev also booking his World Championships berth with a 48.41 second place.
