The NFL has been warning its pro athletes of targeted burglary attempts as robbers find easy access to cash and jewelry. Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were the latest high-profile names to suffer at the hands of such robberies. But now, Joe Burrow gets added to the list after a break in during MNF.

WLWT’s Karin Johnson reported that Hamilton County Police received a 911 call from a woman who identified herself as the mother of a woman staying at Burrow’s Anderson Township house. The woman asked police what her daughter should do after she saw a shattered window and a ransacked bedroom.

The woman who was at the Cincinnati Bengals star’s house was SI Swimsuit model Olivia Ponton. She later confirmed to police that she was employed by Joe Burrow and had just entered the house when she saw what had unfolded.

But she was unsure if the burglars were inside the property or not, hence she first called her mother asking for advice and then made the call to 911 seeking assistance. All of this happened when the superstar quarterback was playing against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.

WLWT also noted that an off-duty special deputy was on the scene when the burglary happened. In fact, in the 911 call Ponton made, she could be heard speaking to that deputy. The Sheriff’s department has not revealed any further details of items stolen or a damage report.

But Olivia Ponton was able to help them get a grip on what all was inside the house. Hamilton County Sheriff’s department’s criminal investigative unit has taken over the investigation and could get a better idea once Burrow was back in town.

Joe Burrow’s situation a concern as pro-athletes become targets

The criminals chose the time when Joe Burrow was away from town. That is exactly what the NFL had advised athletes to be careful about. Organized criminal units have access to all details necessary to understand the whereabouts of a player.

The likes of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have still not received definite leads into the burglaries of their houses. The situation is also affecting NBA players who have also seen a rise in targeted burglaries. Easy access to cash, jewelry and other valuables has made them targets.

Joe Burrow was playing around with Simpsons donuts along with Cincinnati Bengals teammate Ja’Marr Chase after their MNF win over the Dallas Cowboys. The last thing he expected was to get a call after the game about a break-in.

But it might force him and other players to employ private security. That is, at least until police departments across the country can solve their investigations and arrest the perpetrators. Those millions in salary and endorsements are making them soft targets.
