Caitlin Clark is headed to her 2nd All-Star game next weekend. The Indiana Fever guard might have missed 10 games this season, but her fans and the media wanted her to be a part of the festivities that will take place at her place of work.

After tallying a record number of fan votes, she was named the captain of her team. That meant she would get the chance to select her team members from a pool presented by the league. She selected both her Fever teammates, Aliyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell at the 1st opportunity.

Then she proceeded to pick her close friend, Sabrina Ionescu, A’ja Wilson, and Satou Sabally as her fellow starters. Among the reserves, she selected Seattle Storm guard Gabby Williams as a response to fellow All-Star captain Napheesa Collier for picking Paige Bueckers.

Later, she also picked Washington Mystics rookie Sonia Citron. The Notre Dame star was speaking with Hall of Famer Lisa Leslie about her 1st All-Star selection, and revealed that she did not hear about it from WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert.

Instead, Gabby Williams DMed her and forwarded a voice note from the commissioner who mistakenly sent Citron’s All-Star selection to the Storm guard’s number. This gaffe came to the notice of Indiana Fever guard Sydney Colson.

Not finding out word of mouth… unserious.

The veteran guard is known for her jovial attitude, and took the opportunity to troll Cathy Engelbert for mixing up what should be one of the proudest moments of a player’s career. She believes the commissioner should have at least got this part right.

Sonia Citron excited to play alongside idol Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark

Sonia Citron grew up idolizing Sabrina Ionescu. She wears the New York Liberty guard’s Sabrina 2’s in every game. When Lisa Leslie asked her about playing alongside the WNBA champion and Caitlin Clark, the rookie said:

Yeah I’m excited. I think we’re young, we got a bunch of shooters, a little bit of everything. Just really excited to play with Caitlin with Sabrina with all the people on our team.

The 21-year-old has grown up modeling her game after Ionescu. During this season, Citron has played against her idol twice, losing both times. But she did receive a tap from the Liberty guard after being impressed with her defense.

The New York native had revealed after the draft that she received a DM from Sabrina Ionescu after the draft, welcoming her into the league. She was surprised by that gesture, which makes this upcoming All-Star game something of a personal victory for the Mystics guard.

Sonia Citron has played alongside Caitlin Clark in the past

Sonia Citron came to the WNBA after playing 4 years with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. After that, she has only had experience playing alongside her Washington Mystics teammates. Knowing how this All-Star experience will be different, Lisa Leslie asked the rookie if she has played with anyone on Team Clark.

I have played with a Caitlin before. I played with her four years before. We both made the u19 World Cup team.

Citron was referring to her exploits alongside Caitlin Clark at the 2021 FIBA U-19 World Cup held in Hungary. They won gold, and were both on the All-Tournament team alongside Citron’s current Mystics teammates, Jade Melbourne and Sika Kone.

The Team USA teammates will get a chance to rekindle their magic from four years ago. As current Eastern Conference rivals, Citron has the edge over Clark as her Mystics are placed one spot above the Fever.
