Explosive batsman Rahul Tripathi has been named as the captain of the Maharashtra side for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy National T20 Championships which will begin in January and kick start the domestic season for 2020-21. The Maharashtra Cricket Association announced the 20-man squad through an official media release.

29-year-old Rahul Tripathi has been a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2017 when he shone for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant as an opener. He most recently played for the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2020 where he was played in various positions in the batting order. Although Tripathi didn’t have a particularly consistent season, he produced quite a few spectacular knocks for his side.

CSK star Ruturaj Gaikwad named in squad

Ruturaj Gaikwad

23-year-old batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad who announced himself with his excellent showing in the latter half of the IPL in 2020 has also been named in the Maharashtra squad. The young right-handed batsman made three consecutive half-centuries for Chennai Super Kings to prove his worth after a rough patch in his first two matches for the side.

Another CSK player and Indian international Kedar Jadhav has also been named in the squad. The 35-year-old had a horror season with the bat for his franchise and was the subject of a lot of criticism online. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy provides a perfect platform for him now, to put the disappointment behind and shine with the bat.
