Profile Information
Full Name | Petr Yan |
Petr Yan is one of the biggest names in the UFC bantamweight division. Petr Yan defeated Jose Aldo for the UFC bantamweight belt, and to qualify for the title bout, he knocked out Urijah Faber. This Russian mixed martial artist was born on February 11th, 1993. Petr started his journey at the very young age of 8 when he used to sneak out for boxing training. Dudinka, a Russian, began his MMA career in 2014 as a professional, and in his very first bout, he scored a knockout win over his opponent. When he joined the UFC in 2018, from the first fight, he got the recognition to become one of the best in the division, which he did when he competed for the belt in just 2 years against UFC veteran Jose Aldo.
He is also the first Russian-born UFC champion in the bantamweight division. However, Yan is infamously known for losing his belt by throwing an illegal knee on Aljamain Sterling during his first title defense. Since that loss, Yan has not managed to get his hands on the undisputed title. The Russian fighter was also on the losing end of one of the biggest upsets in the promotion’s history. Sean O’Malley, the up-and-coming bantamweight fighter defeated Yan in a shocker. Despite his shortcomings, Yan still is admired by many fans for his skills on the feet.
