Taylor Fritz has had quite an encouraging season, with a Delray Beach Open title to boast of this year. The American reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and the fourth round of the French Open. But, he is hoping to win his first Grand Slam at the Wimbledon championship, perhaps beating Novak Djokovic in the process.
Fritz is yet to reveal which grass tournament he will begin ahead of the Wimbledon. The American just finished one of his best clay seasons despite not starting well. He exited from the Monte Carlo in the second round losing to Lorenzo Musetti. At the Munich Open, he had his best clay result but finished as runners-up. He reached the semifinals of the Madrid and the quarterfinals of the Italian Open.
At the French Open, he was the only American man in the tournament in the fourth round. However, he went on to lose to eventual semifinalist Casper Ruud 6-7(6), 6-3, 4-6, 2-6. His best performance in Wimbledon was in 2022 where he reached the quarterfinals. He lost to 22-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal.
The American participated in the ATP Tour’s fun session about the Grass court prediction with several Top ATP players. Fritz claimed that he would love to have a fairytale story at Wimbledon and then go on to win it.
Fairytale story…, hopefully me! I mean obviously to win. If I beat Novak for the first time somewhere in there, I think that's probably fairytale stuff.Taylor Fritz said
Fritz wishes ahead of the Wimbledon because of the one-sided dominance Novak Djokovic has on the American. The American is yet to win the Serbian in their nine tour-level meetings.
Taylor Fritz aside, Novak Djokovic might miss Wimbledon following right knee surgery on torn meniscus
Novak Djokovic is likely to miss the Wimbledon after undergoing surgery in his torn meniscus. The Serbian suffered the injury during his fourth-round match against Fransisco Cerundolo in the French Open.
Though the former World No.1 won the epic five-set thriller, he slipped several times and also requested medicals during the timeout. After the match, it was discovered that he had torn his right knee meniscus forcing him to withdraw from the event.
He then underwent a successful knee surgery but is yet to reveal which tournament he will be back at the court. Doctors and Specialists are predicting the 37-year-old might be away for three weeks (two weeks from the current date) or more which will make him unlikely to feature at Wimbledon which starts July 1.
