Currently, 13 men and 18 women from the US are in the Top 100 of the world rankings in tennis. It’s more than fair to remark that American tennis is booming. In the WTA tour, two Americans have clinched the Grand Slam titles so far this season.

Madison Keys won her maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, stunning two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka. Coco Gauff also defeated Sabalenka in the Roland Garros final to claim her second Grand Slam title.

In the ATP tour several top American stars like Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, and Ben Shelton have been performing well too. Players from the US also started off the 2025 season strongly, winning the United Cup. In a recent interview with Tennis Channel DE, Fritz said:

I think we now have several generations of players. In my generation, we have improved a lot over the years by pushing each other. I think that helped us all…I guess we all came up at the same time, and when one person achieved a good result, the others knew they could do it too. That’s what got us where we are today and perhaps also motivated the next generation.

Fritz, currently World No. 7 in the ATP rankings, was eliminated in the opening round of Roland Garros 2025 by Daniel Altmaier but is still one of the brightest stars of the American cohort. The 27-year-old has had a good start to his grass season, reaching the finals of the Stuttgart Open, where he will face top seed Alexander Zverev. This marks Fritz’s first final of the season and the pursuit of his 9th career title.

Taylor Fritz clinched his maiden title on grass in Eastbourne in 2019, where he defeated Sam Querrey in the finals. He also triumphed here in 2020, where he defeated Maxime Cressy, and in 2024, he defeated Max Purcell.

The American has reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon twice—in 2022 and 2024— so he clearly adapts well to grass courts. Zverev, on the other hand, will be aiming for his first title on grass. Zverev said after his win over Shelton:

The clay-court season wasn’t the best for me, so I came here more motivated to start the grass season off well. I’m super happy that I’ve been able to start it off with a final. I’m locked in and ready to go. Once I start winning a couple of matches on grass and start feeling good, all the other things start clicking for me.

Fritz leads in the head-to-head record 7-5 against Zverev. The American has won in their last four meetings, with their last meeting being in the semifinals of the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals. Both Fritz and Zverev have registered one win on grass against each other. Fritz is a strong favorite to triumph over the World No. 3 in the Stuttgart Open finals.

Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz have also reached the finals of the Stuttgart Open without dropping a set. Zverev will be aiming for his second title of the season, after triumphing on home soil at the BMW Open by defeating Ben Shelton in the finals. Zverev defeated Corentin Moutet, Brandon Nakashima, and Shelton on his way to the Stuttgart Open finals.

Meanwhile, Fritz defeated Quentin Halys, Marton Fucsovics, and Felix Auger Aliassime on his way to the finals. After this tournament, Fritz will compete in the Queen’s Club Championships, and Zverev will compete in the Halle Open.
