Xavier Worthy received an unexpected shout-out from Taylor Swift during her highly anticipated appearance on her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast. The pop icon has a soft spot for the speedy wide receiver.

Swifties from all corners of the globe tuned in to see Kelce and Swift appear together. The pop megastar spoke about her romance with the Chiefs’ star tight end and how she discovered her love for football through him.

Swift became a fan of the Chiefs football team after frequently attending their games since 2023. Kelce thanked her for taking an interest in the sport.

I am forever grateful for you diving into the football world wholeheartedly.

Travis Kelce told Swift

In fact, at one point, she possessed more knowledge about the Chiefs than Kelce himself. The 14-time Grammy-winning singer recounted watching the 2024 NFL draft. She remembered reacting like a seasoned Chiefs fan after GM Brett Veach drafted Xavier Worthy in the first round.

I fell in love with it. I became obsessed with it; I became like a person who was running through the halls of my house screaming, ‘We just drafted Xavier Worthy,’ and my friends were like, ‘What is…who body snatched you?’ What do you mean we drafted Xavier Worthy?

Swift revealed

She informed Kelce that the Chiefs drafted up to take Worthy.

I forget where I was, but you were the first person to tell me we drafted the fastest man in the draft.

Kelce revealed

Swift recalled screaming in joy that the Chiefs managed to land the Texas speedster.

I was like, ‘Wait, is she right? I’m going to have to look this up. Did she get the wrong information here? But yeah, [she was correct,] we traded up [for Xavier].

Kelce quipped

The Chiefs traded spots with the Buffalo Bills to draft Worthy. The Bills landed FSU graduate Keon Coleman.

Xavier Worthy could become a key part of the Chiefs’ offense

Worthy was already a star at Texas, but he garnered national recognition after setting the fastest 40-yard time in NFL Combine history. The Chiefs did not hesitate to select him.

It was the right move because both Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown suffered injuries, keeping them out for the rest of the campaign. Worthy held down the fort with veteran DeAndre Hopkins. In Super Bowl 59, Worthy split two Eagles defenders to score a 67-yard touchdown for the Chiefs.

Worthy will once again play a key role for the Chiefs’ offense in the new season. He stood out in the offseason among tough competition from Rice, Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Jalen Royals, Jason Brownlee, and Skyy Moore.

The 22-year-old benefits from going up against star corner Trent McDuffie every week. According to the Chiefs’ passing game coordinator Joe Bleymaier, Worthy seeks out McDuffie for one-on-one sessions.

Oftentimes, he’s going to run the same routes over and over against Trent, really sharpening his fastball, his main pitch. And then from there, being able to say, “Alright, here’s how I can complement that, and here are the other moves and the routes that can work off that.”

Bleymaier said (ht/Sports Illustrated)

Worthy played 13 games during his rookie season with the Chiefs. He posted 59 receptions for 638 yards and 6 touchdowns. Worthy further caught 19 passes for 287 yards and scored 3 touchdowns in the playoffs.
