Taylor Swift viewed football differently before meeting Travis Kelce. She is gradually adapting to the game.
Swift became a mainstay at Chiefs games soon after she began dating Kelce in 2023. She ignored the backlash from football fans as broadcasters focused more on her during games rather than the players and the game itself.
On Wednesday, during her highly anticipated appearance on her beau’s New Heights podcast, Swift spoke a lot about football and how she fell in love with the sport. However, she had a rough start to her journey as a fan. During her first date with Kelce, Swift asked a question that she now regrets.
Jason [Kelce]… on our first date, I legitimately asked him what it was like when the Chiefs played the Eagles in the Super Bowl, and he looked across the field, across the line of scrimmage, and saw his brother standing on the other, like five feet in front of him on the field.
Swift told co-host of the show Jason Kelce.
The pop icon genuinely believed that the quarterbacks spar on the football field.
I thought everyone was on the field at the same time. I thought it was like Jared Goff is here, and Josh Allen is here, and they blow a whistle, and they go at each other, and they’re like, “Who’s going to win?”
Swift laughed
Jason was quick to chime in.
I would love to see Jared Goff play some defense. Let’s see Jared Goff on defense.
Kelce joked

"I thought it was like Jared Goff is here and Josh Allen's here [on the field at the same time] … then they blow a whistle and they go at each other." 😂

It does sound like an entertaining proposition, but Jason must take permission from Dan Campbell and Sean McDermott first before fixing any match. Neither coach would want their starting quarterback to get injured.
Taylor Swift’s lack of football knowledge garners mixed reactions on Twitter
Swift’s lack of football knowledge instigated wild discussions on X. While some found her confession genuine, others thought that she wasn’t being truthful.

An X user wrote that the 35-year-old’s father, Scott Swift, is a longtime Philadelphia Eagles fan, and she attended Eagles games in the past with him. So, she should have some idea about the game’s mechanics.
Why is she lying? Her dad was around football all her life and she used to go to Eagles camps as a kid. Weird behavior

Anyone who likes/loves a dude who’s a total sports fan would’ve at least educated herself before opening her baggage. Que P….. 😏
Honest admission about not understanding something beats pretending you know it all.

Don’t blame her at all the sport is covered like tennis for some reason. From the production to the discourse it’s all just about quarterbacks. https://t.co/H9kX8lsg9i

Regardless of how the internet views her statement, she has constantly reminded everyone over the years that it doesn’t bother her.
I’ve been in the industry for 20 years. It’s hard to hurt my feelings at this point.
On the brighter side, she’s getting better at grasping the X’s and O’s of football.
I didn’t know what a first down was… Didn’t know what the chains were. I didn’t know what a tight end was. [Nowadays] we are talking about cover two, cover four, and man coverage. We are learning. I continue to learn.

Kelce raved about the Grammy winner’s football knowledge during his interview with GQ Magazine.
I sort of made her a football fan. She is the most engulfed fan now. She knows what the injury reports look like. She understands what special situations are, third and short—all these things because she just naturally loves to hear about my job.
Travis Kelce told GQ (ht/Cincinnati Enquirer)
More than 1.5 million people in various time zones across the world tuned in to watch Swift appear on her boyfriend’s podcast. The August 13 episode has already crossed over 6 million views in less than 6 hours and is increasing rapidly.
