“Only thing Alex Pereira does is wait” – Team Dricus du Plessis calls out UFC superstar for getting ‘exposed’
Team Dricus Du Plessis gives scathing take on Alex Pereira's striking wave, away from the scope of a PPV UFC title fight.

Not long ago, reigning 185-pound kingpin Dricus Du Plessis was eyeing that prize fight against brand champ Alex Pereira. ‘Poatan’ had made short turnarounds for a three-time defending title campaign and triple-KO defenses in 2024. Pereira himself had also teased a shift down to the 185-pound mark to face the champ before.
Dricus Du Plessis said he’d rather go up to 205 pounds and knock the wind out of him. However, in his fourth defense, Alex Pereira would forfeit the strap to new-champ Magomed Ankalaev. Du Plessis thus shut down the scope of a champ vs. champ future PPV title scrap in short order. Now, Team DDP has laid into a potential matchup and the pitfalls of Pereira.
Look how bad he [Alex Pereira] looked in his last fight. Ankalaev just outplayed him — The only thing Pereira does is he waits for you to make a mistake and then he hooks you. What else can he do? And that stupid low low of his. He’s shit in the clinch, he’s shit on the floor, he’s shit in grappling. Well done to Ankalaev — the hate comes from jealousy…

DDP's Coach Went Off on Alex Pereira in Recent Remarks😳🤬

"Look how bad he [Alex Pereira] looked in his last fight. Ankalaev just outplayed him. A lot of people say it was a boring fight — I say it was a brilliant fight. The game plan of Ankalaev and team was absolutely superb.… pic.twitter.com/mecjQoJttF
Coach Morne Visser laughed it off, billing that the champ only angled to go up against a big name like Alex Pereira. However, neither he nor Dricus Du Plessis, with his berserker offensive style, has considered Poatan a big threat.
To that end, Visser even lauded Magomed Ankalaev for a solid game plan and running down Pereira in his own striking game. He billed despite excellent spatial management, kickboxer Pereira waited too long to get someone in the hook.
Visser also claimed that the fighter was abysmal in the clinch and wouldn’t stand up to ‘Stillknocks.’ This was a running thought in the lead-up to the UFC 312 PPV card, wherein Pereira played cornerman. The running thought was that too much ‘CHAMA’ time and too little anti-wrestle game plan would cost him the gold, and it did. As for the champ, Visser said they have moved on to bigger and potent challenges.
Dricus Du Plessis’ coach confirms dangerous Khamzat Chimaev PPV title fight booking, but not when
UFC 313’s big PPV title loser, Alex Pereira, will go on to try to rebound from his slump. CEO Dana White has agreed that the Brazilian fighter was a big enough name to warrant a title rematch right off the bat for his efforts. Until which, a Du Plessis matchup or shift in weight classes is far off.

UFC middleweight champ Dricus Du Plessis, though, has a lot to look forward to. In recent times, he has had a slow but steady running and a build-up against another hefty name that fans have rallied on. That’d be the 185-pound top seed Khamzat Chimaev.
There were some initial hiccups of a possible Du Plessis camp injury. It’d essentially put him out of the IFW festivities dropping on 26 June in Las Vegas with the return of UFC X and HOF inductions. The week was to cap off a PPV card on 28 June at the T-Mobile in the form of UFC 317. Dricus Du Plessis vs. Chimaev was a big bet for it. Both Visser and the champ have debunked the injury rumors; Visser also said the tremors around such a fight booking are true.

"No injuries, man, that's BS. We're actually waiting for the contract, so it's gonna be soon — definitely not going to be International… pic.twitter.com/nVqED9VkzI
Visser has said a Borz fight and all its rumblings are ‘a done deal’. However, an International Fight Week showcase might not be it. Given the massive Emirati fan following, the coach would like the fight to happen in the U.A.E.
