UFC 322 was an eventful night as Islam Makhachev made history in the main event. He became a two-division champion by defeating Jack Della Maddalena. However, attention also turned outside the Octagon when a brawl between Dillon Danis and members of Makhachev’s team broke out cageside. The incident has recently resurfaced after Umar Nurmagomedov called for stricter punishment for Danis.
The brawl began during the main card bout between Leon Edwards and Carlos Prates at UFC 322. Danis was confronted by members of Islam Makhachev’s team while seated cageside. Magomed ‘Chanco’ Zaykunov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov were identified as being involved in the physical altercation. Security intervened quickly, separating both sides and escorting those involved out of the arena.
Makhachev’s head coach, Javier Mendez, later explained that the brawl was triggered by Danis showing NSFW AI-generated videos of Makhachev and manager Ali Abdelaziz to nearby spectators. Danis had also spent weeks trolling Makhachev ahead of UFC 322 through polarizing social media posts. Umar recently addressed the seriousness of the situation ahead of his upcoming fight at UFC 324.
This guy talked too much, and he talked about religion, talk about families, talk about like a lot of things, you know, it’s not good. You can’t be that person and not expecting that people gonna smash you… [His beatdown was] not enough. He have to be broken some legs, arms. He have to be in hospital, [between] life and death. He deserves it.

Umar was present at Madison Square Garden that night but remained in Makhachev’s corner. He was joined by cousin Khabib Nurmagomedov and brother Usman Nurmagomedov during the main event. Other members of the team, including the fan favorite ‘Chanco’ and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, were removed from the arena. They returned to their hotels and celebrated Makhachev’s victory from there.
The altercation escalated to the point that it drew the attention of former New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Adams intervened to restore order and protect the historical significance of Madison Square Garden. Reports indicated that he urged firm action to prevent the incident from overshadowing the event. He also called on the NYPD to pursue strict punishments for all individuals involved in the brawl.
Umar Nurmagomedov’s remarks toward Dillon Danis were widely viewed as severe, given Danis’ long history of trolling Khabib Nurmagomedov and other fighters from Dagestan. Umar’s stance was framed within that broader pattern of behavior. He is now scheduled to face Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 324, which will bring added attention to his comments amid his continued rise.
Islam Makhachev wants Dillon Danis to be banned from the country
Dillon Danis’ long-running trolling of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s team traces back to his role as Conor McGregor’s teammate during UFC 229. That event ended with one of the most infamous post-fight brawls in MMA history. After submitting McGregor, Khabib leapt over the Octagon fence at T-Mobile Arena. He moved directly toward Danis, who was positioned in the crowd near McGregor’s corner.

UFC 322 was a landmark night for Islam Makhachev as he captured the welterweight championship in the main event. The win made him the 11th two-division champion in UFC history. It also tied him with Anderson Silva for the most victories in UFC competition. The historic achievement set the stage for Makhachev addressing Dillon Danis’ long-running behavior at the post-fight press conference.
When you talk [bad] about someone for the last 5 years, when you meet them you have to answer what you said. Today I don’t think he answered. He have to be banned from this country also.

Makhachev’s post-fight comments reinforced the seriousness with which the situation was viewed by those involved. UFC CEO Dana White also later banned Dillon Danis from attending all future UFC events. The incident was framed as the result of prolonged behavior rather than a single confrontation. Its fallout extended beyond the fighters directly connected to the brawl.
