The new charter negotiation has taken a turn for the worst as the two teams, 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports, who refused to sign the final deal offered by NASCAR have now sued the sport. The Federal anti-trust lawsuit alleges that NASCAR is a monopolistic bully abusing its power to keep the teams from getting what they deserve.
Michael Jordan and the owner FRM Bob Jenkins showed a lot of character in taking the legal action, which is risk as if they fail their time and investment in NASCAR will get to waste. The other 13 teams in the grid have similar grievances as 23XI, but signed the deal and refused to take the legal route because they didn’t have the guts to sue NASCAR, according The Athletic.
A long-time NASCAR executive gave his verdict on the future of the lawsuit in the same report. He pointed out that all three parties involved in the lawsuit won’t be giving up anytime soon and everything that’s going to happen would be fascinating. The result of the lawsuit can either be really good or really bad for the sport, nothing in-between.
Non-lawsuit NASCAR teams can only gain from the legal drama
Another anonymous team owner explained to Bianchi how the 13 teams that have signed the deal will win regardless of the result of the lawsuit. He pointed out that 23XI and FRM wins the battle, all of them will get a better deal. If they lose the case, NASCAR won’t take action against the 13 teams and the teams will have more arguments on their side for the new deal negotiation.
The points made by the team owner correct and it shows the fact that 23XI and FRM doesn’t enjoy the support of majority of their fellow owners. They have taken a big risk that will change the sport forever, for good or bad, and everyone is waiting to see how the legal dram would end.
