Ahead of the 2025 Ryder Cup, golf analyst Brandel Chamblee took another swipe at Bryson DeChambeau and called him a “captain’s nightmare“. Team USA stars would later come to the defense of the 2-time major champion and support him.

DeChambeau is one of the 3 LIV Golfers who will take part in the tournament this year. Chamblee has been a huge critic of LIV Golf and it’s players and has often made some bold comments regarding them.

This week, the 63-year-old would throw a shade at DeChambeau while analyzing him. He was first not pleased with the response from him regarding Rory McIlroy‘s recent comments and called out his YouTube popularity.

While doing so, Chamblee would call the Crushers GC captain an “odd duck” of the US team and expressed that it would be hard to make him blend with the other players. He then went on to call him a “captain’s nightmare” something that did not sit well with the fans on social media.

During the press conference on Tuesday, US Captain Keegan Bradley lauded the golfer for going the extra mile to automatically qualify for the team.

I think Bryson, just his golfing ability alone is an X-factor for our team, but also, he’s a really fiery player… We have a lot of calm, mellow guys, so we need the energy from Bryson, and he brings that every day in practice rounds, in the team room, and hopefully in the tournament competition too.

Keegan Bradley said

Unlike the PGA Tour stars, DeChambeau only had 8 events to rack up the points to ensure an automatic qualification. His strong showings in the major championships included 1 win, 2 runner-up finishes, and 3 more top-10 finishes. Despite missing the cut in 2 events, he still finished inside the top-6 in the Ryder Cup standings and earned an automatic qualification spot.

Xander Schauffele claimed that DeChambeau could be the difference-maker for the team. In the press conference, the 2-time major champion revealed that he spoke regarding the importance of DeChambeau with Bradley.

I was telling Keegan, I feel like Bryson could be like the difference for us in a strange way from the standpoint of feeding into these fans, the style of golf he plays. He’s been great in the team room.

Xander Schauffele said

DeChambeau would take part in a practice session on Tuesday alongside playing partners Justin Thomas, Cameron Young, and Ben Griffin. One of his shots during the practice round would leave the fans in awe as he smashed the ball at 200 mph.

After the round, the golfer was seen signing autographs for the fans at the Bethpage Course. The security would hold back the barricades in order to prevent someone from falling over. A fan could be heard saying, “Bryson I love you” during this.

Bryson DeChambeau found himself in the center of attention on Monday after Brandel Chamblee criticized him once again. World No.1 Scottie Scheffler was one of them who came to support DeChambeau and called him a “great partner” to play with.

In the press conference, the 4-time major champion spoke about the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits, where he and DeChambeau were paired up. Scheffler claimed that he was “excited” to unleash him upon Team Europe this week.

I mean, I think Bryson is a tremendous competitor. He’s a great partner as well. I partnered with him in 2021 at Whistling Straits and he was a tremendous guy to be out to be golf course with… He brings a lot of energy, the people love him… I’m excited to kind of unleash him this week.

Scottie Scheffler said regarding Bryson DeChambeau

Scheffler and DeChambeau would first halve the fourball match against Viktor Hovland and Tommy Fleetwood. They would then defeat the pairing of Paul Casey and Fleetwood 3 & 1.

The two of them would finish the week unbeaten with a 2-0-1 record. Scheffler beat Jon Rahm 4 & 3 in his singles matches, while DeChambeau took down Sergio Garcia 3 & 2 in his match en route to a 19-9 US victory.
