It looks like Team USA always tends to find time for banter. After reaching the United Cup semifinals, they decided to bring the lighter side on the plane.
On the plane, Mackenzie McDonald (one of the players representing the USA) took to Instagram to show Taylor Fritz sleeping (or trying to sleep). He was sitting alongside Coco Gauff, who was trying to control her laughter while seeing McDonald making a video of the 2024 US Open finalist. McDonald said on Instagram:
Caught bro lacking.
Fritz and Gauff are the most prominent players from the USA on the ATP and WTA Tours, respectively. Fritz had a breakthrough season in 2024, reaching the finals of the US Open and the ATP Finals.
TAYLOR FRITZ se clavó un tremendo sieston y el Team USA 🇺🇸 se tienta viéndolo cabecear como un bebito.

Gauff has had a bigger CV than Fritz. She has won two Grand Slam titles (US Open 2023 and Roland Garros 2025). Moreover, she has a WTA Finals title in 2024.
Coco Gauff set to lock horns against Iga Swiatek in the United Cup
The United States secured its place in the semifinals earlier in the week and benefited from two rest days before the next tie. However, the team still faced a demanding 4.5-hour flight from Perth to Sydney, along with adjusting to a three-hour time difference.

While the break offered recovery time, the travel may slightly offset that advantage. Poland, in contrast, remained in Sydney after playing its quarterfinal on Friday night and moved straight into the semifinal showdown.
This matchup is a repeat of last year’s final, adding extra intensity to the contest. Although the Polish team had little rest, their familiarity with the conditions could prove valuable.
One of the marquee encounters features Iga Swiatek taking on Coco Gauff, the world No. 2 and No. 4, respectively. Swiatek dominated their early rivalry, winning 11 of their first 12 matches, but momentum has recently shifted. Gauff has claimed the last three meetings in straight sets, including a notable United Cup victory last year that helped the United States lift the trophy.
Belgium and Switzerland headline the other United Cup semifinal
Switzerland relied on late-match heroics from Belinda Bencic and Jakub Paul to progress through group play and the quarterfinals. They secured crucial wins against Italy and later overcame Argentina’s Maria Lourdes Carle and Guido Andreozzi. Those tight victories highlighted Switzerland’s resilience under pressure.

Team captain Stan Wawrinka, who is in the final season of his career at age 40, had hoped to share the court with Bencic at least once. Instead, he opted to partner with Jakub Paul, a decision that has paid off so far. Paul and Bencic have formed a reliable mixed doubles pairing, winning all three of their matches together.
Bencic has been particularly impressive throughout the competition. After returning to the tour following motherhood in 2024, she has won all three of her singles matches and all three mixed doubles encounters. Her consistency has made her a central figure in Switzerland’s campaign.
Belgium’s Elise Mertens has also enjoyed a strong run, winning all three of her singles matches and splitting her mixed doubles results with Zizou Bergs. She produced a standout performance in the quarterfinals by defeating Barbora Krejcikova in a three-set battle that featured 12 aces.
Mertens and Bencic, both ranked inside the top 20, are set for a pivotal clash that could heavily influence the tie, while mixed doubles remains a potential decider given the depth on both sides.
