Dayana Yastremska produced a superb performance on Wednesday to book her place in the final four of the Australian Open. She was up against the Czech young prodigy Linda Noskova in the quarters of the tournament. The Ukrainian beat her in straight sets to be the first woman qualifier in 46 years to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

The Ukrainian dominated the game for the majority part of the time against Noskova. Ultimately beating her with scores of 6-3, 6-4. This is also her best run in the Grand Slam events.

With the best of reaching the fourth round of the Wimbledon before this run. After the win, Dayana Yastremska was asked about her mother, Marina Yastremska, in the post-match on-court interview.

To which the 23-year-old said,

Oh, my mother… She knows everything that I think. I think we need to get some more time to go shopping. When I look at her, I know what I have to do is move my legs hard. I have a tattoo here that says, ‘Mother Beauty.’ Sometimes I look & it reminds me I have to fight till the end…

A look at Dayana Yastremska’s road to the semi-finals of the Australian Open

Yastremska’s road to the semis of the tournament hasn’t been an easy one. She faced tough resistance both in the qualifiers, as well as the main draw.

In the qualifiers, all of her matches went to the third round and were close encounters. In the first round of the main draw, she defeated Wimbledon winner and seventh-seeded Marketa Vendrousova.

Her next big moment in the tournament was when she defeated the two-time Australian Open winner Victoria Azarenka in the fourth round. In the semis she will be up against either Russian Anna Kalinskaya or the Chinese 12th-seeded Zheng Qinwen.
