Holger Rune has big dreams in tennis, including a rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz is regarded as one of the next-gen stars of the sport as he has been quite impressive with his performances throughout the season and has gathered a lot of expectations on his shoulders after he clinched his maiden Grand Slam singles title at the 2022 US Open after winning four ATP titles in the year.
Rune, the young player from Denmark was recently supposed to face Alcaraz in a first-round match at the Astana Open but withdrew from the tournament due to a knee injury. Rune revealed about his excitement level to play against Alcaraz in the future hoping to establish a long rivalry with the Spaniard that is quite similar to that between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Federer and Nadal had one of the biggest rivalries in the history of tennis but with time, turned out as good friends.
Rune said that “I’m excited, I hope it will be like Federer and Nadal, it could be great, that’s what we’re looking for to be the greatest players of all time and to be the best players we can be. For me, I just try to reach my potential and be as good as possible every day and improve by one percent every time I step onto the training ground.“
