Former tennis ace Andrea Petkovic warned other tennis players to be wary of Carlos Alcaraz who ‘played’ like Novak Djokovic in Sunday’s Wimbledon final. Petkovic, a former World No.9 who retired in 2022, observed the games of Alcaraz and Djokovic and made some remarks.

It wasn’t smooth sailing for Alcaraz earlier in the tournament but as he likes to rise to the challenge every time, he made his way to the final to set up the clash with Djokovic, who, as per Petkovic, started rather slowly. The German feels Djokovic tried to come back in the third set, but it was too late in front of a player like Alcaraz, who knows very well how to capitalize on leads.

The moment he found his feet in the third set, things got more interesting, but it was too late against a delightful Carlos Alcaraz. What's interesting is that I saw Novak Djokovic in Carlos Alcaraz for the first time, and it scared me for the others.
Andrea Petkovic wrote in her Substack

Those who have watched Djokovic play, especially at Wimbledon, know the Serb did not play to his full potential in the final. While many feel he was outplayed by the 21-year-old Spaniard and Djokovic himself accepted the same, the knee injury might have been the big reason behind him not playing aggressively.

Carlos Alcaraz won’t be making the same mistakes again

After his Wimbledon victory, Carlos Alcaraz sat down for an interaction with the Spanish media and answered questions about whether there is a ‘generational shift‘ after his three-set win over Novak Djokovic, whether he is used to winning major titles and the attention of the tennis fraternity that comes after it.

Alcaraz also talked about not repeating his mistakes twice, and that he learned from last year about the importance of planning beforehand so that it doesn’t take a “toll” on his body afterward. And although he admitted he doesn’t feel fresh physically, he knows what his next goals are after his Wimbledon victory.

So maybe physically, I’m not going to say I’m fresher. I’m on par, similar, but mentally, I am stronger, and I know the path I have to take.
Carlos Alcaraz told Spanish media (via AS

Alcaraz beat Djokovic with scores of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(7-4) and became the champion for two consecutive years at the SW19. In last year’s final as well, Djokovic was the runner-up and Alcaraz took home his first Wimbledon trophy. But Alcaraz did not win it easily the way he did in this Wimbledon as Djokovic pushed the match to five sets.
