Alexander Zverev becomes the latest player to get involved in a controversy with the officials at the ongoing French Open 2021.

He has been late for all of his coin tosses this week at the French Open 2021 and also received a time-violation in the 2nd round before the match began. He was however reluctant to accept his mistake as his Round 3 opponent Laslo Djere along with umpire Carlos Ramos continued to wait for the German who was readying his kit, towel and racquet on his bench.

Zverev had been warned in his first match

The World No. 6 and the 6th seed at the ongoing French Open, had been warned by the umpire in his first match for coming late to the coin toss. He however escaped any punishment and responded saying, “You know how Naomi said you could fine her for every single match she is not at the press conference? You can fine me for every single match I’m late!

In the second match also, he was involved in an altercation with the umpire after being handed time-violation along with his opponent Roman Safiullin even before the match started for delaying the start of the match which was the first match on the Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

Within four seconds I was here at the baseline,” protested Zverev. “I looked at it [the match clock] and within four seconds I was here at the baseline. I had it last time – and this time it’s bulls***. I’m sorry.” said Zverev during his argument with the chair umpire in his 2nd match.

In the second round it did not seem much of a mistake of Zverev who was already on the baseline and it was Roman who was serving but the umpire made the call of handing both the players the time-violation.

Alexander Zverev was made to work hard in his first round match where he staged a spectacular comeback after being 2-set down and won the next 3 sets dishing a bagel in the 5th set. He later won his next 2 matches comfortably in straight-sets.

He will meet Japanese Kei Nishikori in the 4th set in what will be their 6th meeting and 3rd on Clay for the season with Zvever coming on top in both of their meetings this year.
