“It seems nobody can defeat Novak Djokovic in big matches,” Alexander Zverev on his semifinal opponent at US Open 2021
Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev
Alexander Zverev stormed into the semifinals of US Open 2021, with a convincing win over Lloyd Harris in the quarterfinals. The German won in straight sets to register his 17th consecutive win of the season. The fourth seed was down a break in the first set, but earned the break back and forced the first set into a tiebreaker.
Alexander Zverev then went on to win the tiebreaker, and from there on, it was him dominating the match. The German stated that the first set tiebreaker was the turning point of the match for him.
“Yeah happy to be in the semis. I think the match was a little bit strange, the first set he (Lloyd Harris) played well and didn’t give me a lot of chances on the serve. After that, I started to play much better, and the turning point was the first set tiebreaker,” said Zverev.
You have to perfect against Novak Djokovic: Alexander Zverev
Alexander Zverev will lock horns against the top seed and tournament favorite, Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. The German opined that one has to play his perfect game against the Serbian, otherwise there is no chance of defeating Djokovic.
“You have to play the best match, that you can, you have to be perfect otherwise you will not win. Most of the time, you cannot be perfect, which is why most of the time people lose,” said the German.
Alexander Zverev stated that his semifinal victory against Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of Tokyo Olympics was the reason for his unbeaten run. Asked on why that victory means so much to him, the German stated that it has been difficult to beat Djokovic on the biggest stages this season.
“Tokyo Olympics is the biggest tournament in the world, and winning there against the world number one, especially when I was a set and break down. It was different than other matches, the emotions were different, because this year it seems like nobody can beat him at Grandslams or in big matches,” Zverev added.
