French Open 2021: Alexander Zverev storms into the third round; defeats qualifier, Roman Safiullin in straight sets

Alexander Zverev stormed into the third round of French Open 2021, as he defeated the qualifier, Roman Safiullin in straight sets on Wednesday. The German won by a score-line of 7-6, 6-3, 7-6 in a match that lasted over two hours.
The match was not as straightforward as the score line suggests, as Safiullin played his heart out, and put Alexander Zverev in a spot of bother on several occasions. The German had to toil hard in the first set, as he had to win the set in a tiebreaker. He won the second set convincingly, but had to toil hard again in the final set, which he won again in a tiebreak.

Alexander Zverev served 15 aces during the whole match, as compared to the Russian’s tally of 6 aces. However, the German also served 10 double faults, which could have cost him dearly on any other day. Zverev converted four of his nine break point opportunities, whereas, Safiullin converted three out of his four break point opportunities.
The tempo of the match was set from early on, as Alexander Zverev pushed the Russian behind the baseline with his aggressive hitting. Alexander Zverev won about 80% of his points on first serve, and at the same time, put the Russian’s second serve under tremendous pressure.
Alexander Zverev won the last set tiebreaker quite comfortably, as he won seven consecutive points, to clinch the last set and match. The German won 115 points during the match, as compared to his opponent’s tally of 97 points.
