‘All is not over yet!’ Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios topple top seeds in second round of Men’s Doubles at Australian Open 2022

Nick Kyrgios was knocked out in the second round of Australian Open 2022 by the second seed, Daniil Medvedev in four sets. On the other hand, Thanasi Kokkinakis was knocked out in the first round itself. However, all is not lost for the Australian duo, as they have paired up to compete in the Men’s Doubles.

After a straight sets win in first round against an Australian duo, the pairing of Kyrgios-Kokkinakis have now defeated top seeds, Nikola Metkic and Mate Pavic. The Croatian duo were outplayed in the entire match, as they lost 7-6, 6-3 to crash out of the tournament.

The match was being played at the Show Court Arena, and the fans put on an incredible atmosphere once again. The Australian duo have stormed into the third round, and could go on to create many more surprises on their way.

Kokkinakis-Kyrgios too hot to handle for the top seeds

The pairing of Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios served 17 aces during the whole match, most of them coming from Kyrgios’ side. The Croatian pair were broken on three occasions, whereas, the Australian pair was broken on just two occasions.

The match took a turn when Kyrgios and Kokkinakis won the first set tiebreaker. The Australian duo ran away with second set, as the top seeds looked out of place. Overall, Pavic and Metkic won 61 points, whereas, their opponents won 72 points.

Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis are great friends off the court, and share a great rapport. Hence, with the draw getting easier for the duo now that they have knocked out the top seeds, they could go all the way.
