Emma Raducanu, the tournament’s No. 11 seed, beat Caroline Garcia in three sets in the first round at Indian Wells 2022 but lost 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 in the third round against Petra Martic. Raducanu had missed her previous tournament in Mexico due to a hip injury, and her participation in the early US hardcourt portion of the season had been questioned. She also revealed that she had struggled with a back ailment while training to regain her form and fitness after losing to Martic. However, despite all of this, she is optimistic and ready to heal from a stiff back in time for the Miami Open, which began on Monday.

In 2022, the World No.41 has been particularly impressive, defeating Naomi Osaka in the third round of the Australian Open before losing to eventual winner Ashleigh Barty in the fourth round. However, she struggled at Indian Wells, withdrawing due to illness from her second-round match against Leylah Fernandez. But, like her counterpart, Amanda Anisimova is scheduled to begin her quest in the first round of the Miami Open, when she will face Shelby Rogers in the first round.
