American legend John McEnroe picks out THIS rising star to succeed Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic at the top

Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic have dominated tennis for a long time now. Nearly 2 decades on, Nadal and Djokovic are still going strong despite Federer dropping off. Since the trio began their domination, no one except Andy Murray has been able to get to the top and win Grand Slams.

However, despite still going strong, both Nadal and Djokovic are now getting on in years and would inevitably have to bid adieu to the sport in some years. Nadal already has injury problems and almost had to give the Australian Open 2022 a miss before eventually winning it. Thus, it’s high time to search for a person who’d succeed them at the top.

McEnroe tips Aliassime to be the successor at the top

The world of tennis has always been rife with speculation on the player who’d finally break the Big 3 domination and take the mantle for them. However, when someone is endorsed for the task by a legend like John McEnroe, it means that there is certainly something special in the player. The American legend has endorsed Canadian rising star Felix Auger-Aliassime to succeed the Big 3.

Aliassime has had a stunning rise in recent times, winning the ATP Cup finals to end last year, before impressing again at the Australian Open at the start of this year. The youngster is one of the brightest youngsters in the sport currently.

In a recent interview with Khaleej Times, McEnroe revealed that he really likes Aliassime among the bunch of talented youngsters in the game currently. The American also praised the rapid improvement shown by the Canadian and has placed his faith in him to take the mantle from the Big 3 eventually.

“I like Felix a lot, the Canadian, Auger-Aliassime. He seems the sort of the guy that I think was most likely to win from a bunch of them.  I think there’s going to be a handful of guys that are going to do it. But right now, he’s making some incredible progress and showing a lot of people that to me, he’s going to be the guy in a few years,” said McEnroe.
