Kevin Anderson vs Jenson Brooksby: Match Preview
Anderson’s season has been marred with injuries. He only rejoined the tour on the clay courts of Estoril Open. While the South African failed to make an impact on the dirt, Anderson made up during the grass court season by reaching the quarterfinals in Nottingham, before winning the New Port Open.
Interestingly, Anderson beat his next opponent Jenson Brooksby in straight sets. The former Wimbledon finalist then lost to Nick Kyrgios in the opening round of the Atlanta Open, last week. Going ahead, the 35-year-old would be hoping for a decent performance in Washington, before moving to New York for the US Open.
On the other hand, Brooksby comes into this match at the back of two consecutive quarterfinals on the hard courts of Orlando and Lexington. Hence, the young American will be fairly optimistic about his chances on the hard courts of Washington as well. The 20-year-old would have also likely learned from his loss to Anderson and that might help him in this clash.
Kevin Anderson vs Jenson Brooksby: Head to Head
These two met for the first time recently on the ATP tour at New Port Open on the grass. On that occasion, the South African came out on top in two sets and leads the head-to-head tie 1-0.
Kevin Anderson vs Jenson Brooksby: Prediction
Having beaten the younger American recently in the finals of New Port, the South Africa will fancy his chances of progressing ahead. That said, Brooksby will also be brimming with confidence after his finals run in New Port. While Anderson will look to serve big and win cheap first serve points, like he did last week, Broosky will have to return better to take the match the distance. Currently, the 35-year-old veteran looks poised to enter the second round.
Match Prediction: Kevin Anderson should win in two sets.
