Russian star, Andrey Rublev has been one of the most consistent players in recent times. Last season, he created a habit of winning the ATP 500 events and as a result was consistently rising up the ranks. This season too, he has maintained incredible consistency and has broken into the top 5 of the ATP Rankings.

He started the season with winning the ATP Cup with Russia before making it to the quarterfinal of Australian Open. He then won the ATP 500 event at Rotterdam and made it to the semifinals at Doha, Dubai and Miami. He then had a decent outing at almost every tournament he played and ended the season with a Davis Cup victory for Russia. Last week in Abu Dhabi, he won the Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition tournament after beating Andy Murray in the final.

In an interview with Russian Tennis Federation, Rublev assured everyone that he is completely fit and will travel to Australia on December 27. “I feel good, there are no problems or symptoms, I feel great,” Rublev said. “I am currently training, preparing. I will fly to Australia on December 27.”

Rublev will begin his 2022 season at the ATP Cup from January 1. It will be his only tune up tournament before playing the Australia Open where he’ll enter as the 5th seed. Apart from singles, Rublev will also play doubles at Melbourne Park. He will play alongside 93rd-ranked Denys Molchanov.

Rublev revealed that he and Molchanov go a long way back and with Molchanov needing a higher ranked player to enter the main draw, Rublev came to his aid. “I have known Denis for a long time,” he said. “It so happened that he can get to the Grand Slam tournaments in doubles only with players with high ratings. It was very important for him to get to the “Grand Slam”, we talked about this with him for a long time.

“But recent years have passed in a difficult epidemiological environment, with many restrictions. He was afraid to risk someone testing positive. Now it has become a little easier, and we showed up together at the Australian Open,” he added.
