Andy Murray is the latest addition in the long list of fans of Australia’s Ashleigh Barty who is the World No. 1 on the WTA Tour. Murray talked about his admiration for the 2-time Grand Slam champion in a recent interview at the tournament in Cincinnati.

Murray was unfortunate to lose out in the 2nd round of the tournament but Barty has qualified for the semi-finals where she will be up against Angelique Kerber. Speaking in the interview, Murray praised Barty for her all-round game and her off-court behaviour as well.

I just love watching Ash Barty play tennis. She has a lot of variety, she has got a very exciting brand of tennis. I think she is a really nice person as well, which matters, even though she turned me down for Mixed Doubles at Wimbledon (laughs). But I love watching Ash play, she is a very worthy World No. 1,” said Murray about Barty.

He is an incredible champion. The adversity he has gone through his career, the way he has fought for us as debutant players, his mum has raised an incredible, incredible, man. I hope he can remain healthy and win a few more great matches,” said Barty praising Murray and adding her message to the box of compliments.

Murray will now be travelling for the 2021 Winston-Salem Open where he is set to play Australia’s Nick Kyrgios in the opening round as final preparation for the upcoming 2021 US Open. Barty on the other hand is still in Cincinnati where she is playing on the tour for the first time since her title run at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, 10 years since she won the Juniors title.

Barty still has 2 more tournaments before she moves to New York for the US Open where she is yet to go past the 4th round in Singles but won the Doubles title at the 2018 US Open.
