Can’t Wait! Fans go crazy as Andy Murray confirms #RoadToWimbledon appearance at this tournament next year

Andy Murray

Former World No.1 Andy Murray has made a comeback on the ATP Tour, after multiple injury-marred seasons. His long absence had deprived fans of his all-court games and sardonic British humour. Recently, he announced that he will start his grass-court journey ahead of Wimbledon, otherwise dubbed as #RoadToWimbledon on social media, at the Stuttgart Open in Germany.

The Stuttgart Open is an ATP 250 event. The event is over a century old, having started in 1916. Up until 2014, it was played on outdoor clay courts. In 2015, the tournament switched to outdoor grass courts. Currently sponsored by Mercedes Benz, the event is colloquially referred to as the Mercedes Cup, with the winner being awarded with a car amongst other rewards. Marin Cilic is the defending champion.

Earlier today, it was announced by the official Twitter account of the Mercedes Cup that Andy Murray will be kick-starting his #RoadToWimbledon in Stuttgart. Their tweet read “Not only Santa has great surprises for you today. We‘re proud to announce that @andy_murray will start next year‘s #RoadToWimbledon in #Stuttgart!”. Andy Murray retweeted, commenting “Looking forward to it!”
