Andy Murray
3-time grand slam champion Andy Murray has been one of the best players over the last decade alongwith the Big 3. He was once considered at par with them and was a member of the Big 4 until his a setback in 2017 where he had to go a career threatening hip injury.
Ever since then, Murray has been trying his best to rise up the ranks but is still ranked outside the top 100 on the ATP Rankings. But given what he’s achieved over the years, he still manages to get a wild card into the best of tournaments. Ahead of Indian Wells, he said that he does not feel bad taking wildcards away from younger players given all he achieved in tennis before missing time due to multiple hip surgeries.
“After what I’ve gone through the last three, four years and what I’ve achieved for the game beforehand, I don’t feel like I need to justify the reasons for why I should get wildcards,” Murray said.
“I’d rather get in by right, obviously, but then I could also argue that for three years I was out injured when I would have rightfully been entered into all of these tournaments.”
He added that he would’ve gotten direct entry into the tournaments if it wasn’t for injuries. “I would’ve been ranked at the top of the game and would’ve been getting into all of these tournaments so (other) players would have obviously had the opportunity to take that spot for the last three seasons or whatever.”

At Indian Wells, Andy Murray will be up against Adrian Mannarino in the first round. He will play in the evening session on Friday and will fancy his chances to beat the Frenchman. If he beats Mannarino, he will then face a very tough task in the second round where he’ll meet Spanish teen sensation Carlos Alcaraz.
In the third round, Murray is expected to face Alexander Zverev which should be a mammoth encounter for him.
