Andy Murray set to miss the French Open due to injury, eyes return on Grass
Andy Murray
Andy Murray has been suffering from hip problems for a while now and things just keep getting worse for him. He first got operated on his hip back in January 2018, after months of deliberations and having lost half the season due to injury. That surgery though wasn’t sufficient and his hip problems kept recurring. Again, after suffering for a year with pain, constantly having his plans to comeback on court thawed due to the injury, he decided on a second hip surgery. The second surgery, the hip resurfacing surgery, happened in January 2019. In September 2019, Murray won his first match on tour since January of that year.
He lost 2020 to Corona, and on the comeback trail he wanted to start 2021 strongly but he suffered another setback when he tested positive for Corona and lost the Australian Summer 2021. During those times, Murray admitted he couldn’t watch tennis as it used to hurt him, and chose to go away and play Challengers.
After that, he lost in the first round of the Montpellier Open, and then lost in the second round to Andrey Rublev in Rotterdam. He next wanted to play in the Miami Open, but a freak groin injury meant he had to go back home.
Andy Murray will not play the French Open 2021 due to injury
Murray who was testing the waters by playing doubles at the Italian Open 2021 with Liam Broady has confirmed that he will not be a part of the French Open 2021. The thirty four year old apparently felt some ‘discomfort’ and hence has decided to skip the whole clay court season. The Scotsman had in fact received a wild card entry at the Geneva Open, but he had to turn that offer down.
The Geneva Open is the same tournament where Roger Federer is expected to return as well. Murray will next be seen at the Queens and then at Wimbledon 2021. Infact, Wimbledon 2021 might be the last time Murray sets foot on those coveted green lawns. Irrespective of whether Murray can make a comeback and make a mark again, the three time Grand slam winner, the two time Olympic Gold medalist in tennis and former world No.1 will remain a legend of the game.
