‘Classiest, most empathetic, and mature’: Andy Roddick praises Leylah Fernandez for acknowledging the 9/11 disaster

Leylah Fernandez has been absolutely sensational at the US Open. The youngster from Canada delivered impressive performances one after the other and made her parents and nation proud on the biggest stage. She managed to defeat the likes of Naomi Osaka, Elina Svitolina, Aryna Sabalenka, and many other top-seeded players in the tournament.
After several terrific performances, Leylah made her way into the finals of the tournament where she, unfortunately, had a bad day. Emma Raducanu bamboozled Leylah and ended up winning the finals in straight sets. However, one just can’t take anything away from the Canadian who had a fantastic tournament.

Leylah Fernandez received a standing ovation from the crowd after the game ended as they acknowledged the gigantic achievement of the teenager. Moreover, another incident transpired during the presentation ceremony which yet again proved that Leylah is indeed a champion player with a heart full of empathy.
During the ceremony, after the questions, answers, and applause ended, Leylah asked for the mike yet again in order to acknowledge the 9/11 disaster and praised New York for their undying spirit and unmatched support for her which has inspired her to a great extent.
Tennis legend Andy Roddick took to Twitter to praise Leylah for her gesture and wrote, “Leylah asking for the mic back to acknowledge 9/11 was one of the classiest, most empathetic, and mature things I’ve ever seen in a post-game moment and she’s only 19. I’m blown away.“
Leylah has definitely played some outstanding tennis at the US Open and she deserves all the accolades which will come her way. In addition to that, her gesture after the game and love for the crowd will only make her more popular in the days to come.
