‘Everyone trying to kill the joy’: Andy Roddick urges fans not to overreact to the stoppage of play incident

Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu has been absolutely sensational at the US Open 2021. She started off in an emphatic style and continued on her merry way. The British tennis star didn’t drop a single set throughout the tournament which makes her win all the more sensational.
In the final clash, Raducanu defeated Canadian tennis star Leylah Annie Fernandez with relative ease. At the start of the game, Leylah gave a tough competition to Raducanu, however, as the game progressed it became clear that Raducanu is going to thrash the Canadian.
While Raducanu was never under pressure throughout the game as she constantly played powerful shots and cornered Leylah on several occasions, there was one point during the game where Leylah was involved in an animated discussion with the officials.
‘This match won’t be defined by the stoppage of play incident’: Andy Roddick

When the game was on, during the second set, Raducanu stretched herself to the maximum while she was trying to hit a wide one from Leylah. In the quest to do so, Raducanu injured her leg after which she was required to receive first aid. However, this didn’t go down well with many fans as they opined that Raducanu took too long to get back on the court.
Giving his opinion on the issue, tennis legend Andy Roddick claimed that people are overreacting and claimed that it wasn’t Emma’s call to stop the game. “Everyone trying to kill joy by overreacting to the stoppage in play to stop the knee bleeding, just stop. It’s not even Emma’s call,” he said.
He went on to say that the match shouldn’t be defined by that one incident as the situation was not in Emma’s control. “They will not allow active bleeding while on court. Had to be addressed. Out of her control. This match won’t be defined by that. Just stop,” he added.
