“Ash Barty has this kind of mindset” Iga Swiatek demolishes Madison Keys to reach the semis at the Indian Wells 2022
Iga Swiatek
World No. 4 and the 3rd seed at the 2022 Indian Wells Open, Iga Swiatek blazed past Madison Keys in the quarter-finals to reach the last-4 at the tournament for the first time in what is her second main-draw appearance at the WTA-1000 event. Dropping only 1 game, Iga won the match 6-1, 6-0 in mere 56 minutes to wrap up the proceedings quickly.
This was Iga’s first straight-set win of the tournament and it couldn’t have come at a better time as the Pole wins her 9th straight match on the trot is now unbeaten in WTA-1000 matches this season as she comes fresh from a title at the 2022 Qatar Open in Doha last month. Iga could have had a double bagel having raced to 5-0 in the first set but Keys managed to win the game before Iga wrapped up the set 6-1 and left no stone unturned in the second to drop a bagel eventually, her second of the tournament.
“I was getting tired a little bit so I wanted to make it quick. I felt really comfortable. I’m also trying to get some fun as well from matches which are tight. Before where I felt stressed, I couldn’t really make that fun. But right now I’m more focused on finding solutions and I want every match to be a lesson for me.
“I think Ash Barty has this kind of mindset. When she feels like the match is really tight, she treats it like a great experience because she can find solutions, actually be focused on that. It’s a great challenge for her. I’m also trying to find fun when I’m playing when the score is pretty tight,” said Iga after her win over Keys.
Big clash awaits Iga Swiatek in the semis
With the win, Iga will now take on Simona Halep in the semi-finals with the Romanian seeing off Petra Martic 6-1, 6-1 to reach the last-4. This will be the 4th meeting between the two Grand Slam champions with Halep leading the head-to-head tie 2-1 having played all 3 matches in Grand Slam events.
