Ash Barty sent shockwaves around the tennis world when she announced her retirement at just the age of 25. The Australian said she is content with what she has achieved in her tennis life and is now ready for the next chapter of her life. Just two weeks from her retirement announcement, Barty has hinted at what her life after tennis might be. Barty has already won a title just weeks after her retirement, but this time it wasn’t on tennis courts.

She took to the lush greens of a golf course and won a local golf tournament in Queensland. Speculation was rife whether it would a cricket bat or a golf club, she chose the latter and aced it in emphatic fashion. On Saturday, Barty won the ladies’ competition at the Brookwater Golf and Country Club in Brisbane’s outskirts. The Australian who plays off a handicap of 4, shot a round of 34 to finish first in a field of five women. It’s not the first time Barty has played competitive golf, she won the women’s club championship at Brookwater in 2020 as well.

Two-time Queensland amateur champion Louis Dobbelaar touted her to turn pro soon saying Barty’s got all the tools for it. “She’s got all the tools if she wants to pursue it. If she put her mind to it, I’m sure she could. I’ve seen quite a lot of golfers come from different sports and she’s the one that stands out the most, by far actually,” he said.

Barty is no stranger to excelling at sports other than tennis. In 2014, she took a hiatus from tennis to play professional cricket for Brisbane Heat in the Women’s Big Bash League. Now after retirement, the reigning Australian Open champion is looking for another career swap. American legend Tiger Woods already backed Barty to turn pro earlier saying “She’s got a great swing, are you kidding me?”

Barty’s love for golf was also how she met her now-fiance Garry Kissick. Kissick is a professional Golf player himself and is a trainee at  Brookwater Golf Club, which is the place where Barty and Kissick met for the first time in 2016. And now Barty looks like she is taking one step further by linking her next career with her partner’s by choosing golf. Barty is yet to give any clues about what her future might be, but going by her recent involvement in golf looks like she is ready for another sporting challenge following her retirement from tennis.
