Casper Ruud had a tricky start to the 2022 season. He won two good matches at the ATP Cup but was forced to withdraw from the Australian Open a day before his first-round match due to an injury. But he made a very strong comeback at Buenos Aires this week. He defeated the likes of Roberto Carballes Baena and Federico Coria in the initial rounds before beating sixth seed Federico Delbonis in the semifinals in straight sets 6-3,6-3.

Diego Schwartzman hasn’t had an ideal start to the 2022 season either. After two good victories at the ATP Cup, he bowed out of the second round of the Australian Open. Last week, he made it to the semifinals of the Cordoba Open where he lost to Alejandro Tabilo in straight sets. This week in Buenos Aires, he defeated Jaume Munar and Francisco Cerundolo in the first two matches and then got the better of third seed Lorenzo Sonego in the semifinal in three sets 7-5,3-6,6-2.
