Nikoloz Basilashvili vs Andrej Martin: Preview

Nikoloz Basilashvili
Nikoloz Basilashvili

The Georgian is coming into this match having played 12 games on the clay this season. He has won seven matches and lost five. After making the semifinals in Cagliari, he had consecutive early round exits in Monte Carlo and Barcelona. However, Basilashvili made quick amends by winning the Muncih Open beating Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets. Thereafter, he also experienced two more premature exits in Madrid and Rome. The 29-year-old is seeded three in Belgrade this week, owing to which he also received a bye in the opening round.

On the other hand, the Slovakian has played 24 matches on the clay this season, but the bulk of his matches have come at the challenger level. He came through two qualifying rounds in Belgrade this week and even beat Christopher O’ Connell 3-6, 7-67, 7-5 in the first round. Given his lack of experience at the top level, it is tough to see him progress any further this week in the Serbian capital.

Nikoloz Basilashvili vs Andrej Martin: Prediction

Nikoloz Basilashvili will be the favourite in the upcoming final of Nikoloz Basilashvili vs Jan-Lennard Struff
Nikoloz Basilashvili

The Georgian has rubbed shoulders with the best on the ATP tour on clay before as compared to his Slovakian opponent who comes across as a novice at the highest level. Although Martin has played 24 matches on the dirt in 2021, he is unlikely to trouble Basilashvili in this match. It is even difficult to see the match going to three sets.

Match Prediction: Nikoloz Basilashvili should win in two sets.
