He comes to Lyon from the Rome Masters 2021, where he was defeated in straight-sets. He sets up this tie after winning against local boy Gilles Simon in straight sets.

David Goffin started the season with great consistency but failed to continue it further. He started his campaign with a semi-final run at the Antalya Open 2021 in Australia. He followed it up with winning the title at Montpellier 2021 a month later. He has failed to reach another finals with the quarter-finals at the Monte Carlo Masters 2021 being his best run since his title.

He comes to Lyon from a second round defeat at the Rome Masters 2021, will play his first match against Bedene as he received a bye in the first round being the 4th seed.
