Gael Monfils has been struggling for form since the resumption of tennis post the Pandemic halt. The Frenchman is yet to win a match since Septermber,2020 across 7 tournaments and has had issues with his fitness as well in this time. In 2021 he has played just two tournaments which includes the 2021 Australian Open where he lost in an epic 5-setter in the first round.
He took a break again as his injuries resurfaced and had to miss tournaments for nearly 3 months. The French No. 1 comes to his homeland from the Rome Masters 2021 where he was knocked out in the first round.
Lloyd Harris has been struggling for consistency as well after impressing at the Dubai Open 2021 where he reached the finals from the qualifying rounds. That remains his best run of 2021 and has not gone past the Round of 32 since playing in Dubai. The South African No. 1 comes to Lyon from a first round defeat at the Rome Masters 2021.
