Richard Gasquet vs Karen Khachanov: Match Preview
Frenchman Gasquet has been on the road a long time now. The thirty-four year old turned pro in 2002, and in the last nineteen years he has managed to win fifteen ATP trophies. His last title came in the year 2018 on the grass courts of ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The last few years have not been that great for Gasquet as he has struggled with injury and form. In this year’s clay court leg, Gasquet has participated in a few tournaments but without much success.
He was ousted in the first round of both the Barcelona Open and the Italian Open. In the Lyon Open though he has some form going. He beat Grégoire Barrère in the first round, in three sets. But his real confidence booster shot came by beating Diego Schwartzman in the second round, 6-3 7-5. In the Quarter Finals he is up against Russian Karen Khachanov.
Khachanov has four ATP Titles, but not a single one on clay. Like his opponent in this match has participated in a few clay court events, but this tournament has given him the best results so far. In the first round he got the better of Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi, in the second he beat Polish guy Kamil Majchrzak 7-6 6-3.
Richard Gasquet vs Karen Khachanov : Head-to-Head
This will be their first meeting on the tour. So the current head to head stands at 0-0.
Richard Gasquet vs Karen Khachanov: Prediction
Gasquet, who possesses a whip like single backhand, plays well on all surfaces but is particularly good on hard courts. But he still has two clay court titles compared to zero of Khachanov’s. In the encounter against Schwartzman, he served seven aces and converted five of his six breakpoints, and looks to be getting to somewhere near his form that propelled him to No.7 in the World. Khachanov will also try to do his best and he is a powerful layer so he will give it a good whip. A fit Gasquet should edge this.
Match Prediction: Richard Gasquet will beat Karen Khachanov in three sets.
